Type Locality and Naming

Along the Chorrox pass, central part of the Babatag ridge. Yu.N. Andreev, 1968 (190, p.43). Stratotype at Chorokh Pass.

Synonym: Chorrox Suite, Чорохская св., Chorokh Fm, Chorrox Fm


Lithology and Thickness

Divided into two subformations.

Upper - alternation of greenish-gray calcareous clays, sandstones, shell limestones; at the bottom - raspberry clays and gypsums. Thickness 46m.

Lower - gray and dark gray sandy clays with interlayers of shell limestones. Thickness 51m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The formation conformably overlies the Shirabad Fm

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the Akmechet Fm.

Babatag Range.

Fossils

Upper - Contains marine bivalve mollusks - Liostrea rouvillei Coq.; foraminifers - Rotaliatina asiatica N. Byk., Conorbinopsis aktagi (N. Byk.).

Lower - Contains marine bivalve mollusks - Rhynchostreon columbum (Lam.); foraminifers - Trochammina kugitangensis N. Byk.


Age 

It belongs to the lower Cenomanikan. The lower part of the formation is included in the Tyubegatan Horizon, the upper part - in the Karikansai Horizon. (56; 189; 383; 446; 452).
